Hamlet

A matching pair of acrylic thrones were made for this 2019 production of Hamlet. This build was a combination of using a CNC router (files prepared by Cassandra Westover) to cut out all elements and handwork done by myself to assemble and finish. Unfortunately, many pieces came off the the CNC router with a significant amount of chatter (first image) and needed to be trued up (second image). Truing up was accomplished using a template and a flush trim bit in a router; this was done just as much for aesthetic purposes as it was done to assure a quality bond between two pieces. All joints were bonded together using Weld-On #3 or Weld-On #16. Many pieces keyed in together as a means to avoid depending on an adhesive bond exclusivly; this can be seen in the third image where the rectangular void accepted the back of the armrest(s). All edges were sanded/polished up to 400 grit, then flame polished. Upholstery done by Mara Rich.
